Travel Information
The Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research (BIMR) at McMaster University is located in beautiful Hamilton, Canada, on the western tip of lake Ontario. Hamilton is 70 km from two major tourist destinations, Toronto and Niagara Falls, providing an ideal opportunity for IUCr Congress attendees to expand their visit to Canada.
The trip from Montreal to Toronto is one hour by plane and 7 hours by train. The trains between Montreal Central Station and Toronto Union Station are especially convenient, cost under 100 CAD if purchased in advance, and offer good free wi-fi service.
Travel to McMaster University from Toronto’s Pearson-International Airport or Union Station can be accomplished either by car or via public transport (click here for directions). Parking for guests is available on campus but fairly expensive. The HSR transit in and around Toronto, Hamilton and McMaster University is very accessible. We provide a summary of the most important public-transport options, but caution you to download and cross-check the relevant timetables as you plan your itinerary.
The main office of the Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research is located in room 453 of the A.N. Bourns Science Building, which is marked as building #25 on the Campus Map. The exact location of the workshop will be announced later. Participants staying in on-campus accommodations will be directed to one of the residence halls shown on the map after registration.
